Still Life Drawing - Final Piece
This is a highly detailed final piece
painting using acrylic paints on a canvas sheet of paper. A bright, artificial
light has been used to create a shadow of the bonsai tree cast upon the wall
behind it. This creates a dynamic view leading the eye from the tree, to the
shadow and back again.
There is a piece of black drapery behind
the bonsai tree which sets apart the contrast of light and dark from one side
of the painting to the other. This painting gives a sense of impressionistic
style where great detail has not been added but you can sense that it is there.
This appears within the bark of the tree and also the soil, which the tree is
rooted in. With the variety of different colours used to give the impression of
detail.
The leaves that rest upon the table, in front
of the tree cover a space that would have otherwise been blank. Giving a
vibrant range of colour to this painting that would have other wise been full
of quite dull colours. The plant pot also gives sense vibrancy with its
turquoise colour, which is greatly highlighted with the bright light that also
casts hard, dark shadows upon it.
The bright light used in this set up casts
shadows upon the trees bark and branches, which makes them stand out from the
dark curtain that rests behind them. This also gives a contrast of light and
dark with the shadow that is being cast upon the tree.
This painting really stands out with its
vibrant colours and tree as the main subject. However with the added elements
of the light, it creates a really interesting painting. As the space where the
shadow lays would have otherwise been quite blank and a waste a space but with
this added elements it really helps the painting stand out.
